Is that Jesus in your pants or are you just happy to see me?

I made this up, unlike 'Joined in Jesus' (below) which is fo 'reals.

In this day and age, its hard to do anything without stumbling over an ad for 'male enhancement'. Whether its a pop-up window on the internet, a late night info-mercial, or golf-buddy bragging about his 'results' , it seems as though we are beset by all manner of 'miralulous' male enhancers and stimulators. But what about the side effects? Do we really know what all that extra ginseng will do for our health in the long run, not to mention the unnatural ingredients used in such products. Maybe its time to expect miracles from where miracles flow. May be its time for the Holy spirit to enhance your life.

[Ed. sorry, I just can't do it. Its too evil. maybe one day when I'm really angry at the world I'll complete this.]

Kevin, Josh here.
Dude, we need to chat, about various topics:
The new J.E.W. album
Frankenstein and its connection to our conversations about the downfall of modern science due to specialization
Hanging out sometime
Various other ins and outs
I keep trying to call you, but you ain't ever home
I'll try again tonight

Specialization is necessary once science has achieved a certain level of complexity.

You will always need to have hard-hitters that spend all their time working on one sub-field so they can really bust it open.

There's just too much science now for one man to keep the whole gamut in his brain with a level of detail that can match specialists.

Now, you need higher-level thinkers as well—scientific visionaries, or even businessmen with the ability to drive science.

All of this will become a moot point when Juergen Schmidhuber creates his optimal scientist.

Scientific specialization is neccessary of course, but the notion that scientific specialization is the appropriate general direction for science is mistaken. This view stems (I think) from the mistaken view that science is in some sense essentially complete or at least close to it (and this I think goes back to Bohr as a recent example). We can see the fallout of such attitudes in the character of the supposed THEORY OF EVERYTHING of the particle physicists. Here, our TOE is supposed to be the product of our painstakingly detailed search for the fundamental constituents of matter, an approach endorsed no doubt by those who specialize in the relavent aspects of physics. While there is nothing fundmentally wrong with this attitude, there is one particular problem with it that may lead us consitently to dead ends (where we to 'forge on' scientifically in the domain of the specialist exclusively). We can only frame our specialist disciplines within the framework of our more general theories. So, our 'particle catalog' approach to the TOE is problematic if we recognize that maybe we shouldn't be looking for fundamental PARTICLES per se. And a change in priority such as this can only occur on the holistic level.

We need both specialists and generalists in order to expand mankinds domination of the multiverse.
